Codon64
A genomic music plugin for turning DNA/RNA sequences into codon wheels, MIDI lanes, bass pulses, melodic motifs, mutation triggers, and psychedelic electronic source material.

Plugin purpose
Codon64 is a composition and sonification plugin. It turns biological sequence data into musical structure, giving Akhentek unusual source material that can become basslines, melodies, rhythmic triggers, pads, FX events, or full psychedelic electronic sketches.
It reads DNA/RNA in codons — three-letter biological words such as ATG, CCG, or TAA — and maps those codons into a 64-step musical wheel.
Codon64 mapping
- Input: DNA/RNA text, FASTA files, or molecule presets.
- Codons: sequence is read in groups of three bases.
- Wheel: each codon lands on a 64-codon map.
- Output: MIDI note, octave, velocity, gate length, bass movement, lead motif, and mutation/FX trigger behaviour.
Musical result
The result is deterministic musical source material: the same sequence can produce the same skeleton. Akhentek can then arrange it, sound-design it, mutate it, humanize it, and turn it into something physical, hypnotic, and emotionally useful.
Why it matters
Codon64 is not just a novelty label. It gives composition a hidden architecture: biology becomes rhythm, melody, contour, and event structure. That fits Akhentek’s ancient-future personality beautifully — organic code translated into electronic ritual.
Clear boundary
This is genetic-code sonification and composition. It does not claim to alter DNA, heal disease, or create medical effects. The artistic claim is strong enough: biological information can become musical structure, and that structure can become Akhentek music.
Roadmap
- Codon64 v0.1: generate a 64-beat phrase with bass, lead, and mutation/FX MIDI lanes.
- Molecule presets: insulin, collagen, dopamine receptor, mitochondrial fragments, plant genetics, and custom sequences.
- Visual codon wheel: show the sequence as a circular musical map before playback.
- Mapping modes: chromatic, amino-acid family, fractal frequency, and controlled random seed.
- Studio export: send MIDI into Cubase, Ableton, Logic, Kontakt, hardware synths, or the VibeForge Studio pipeline.
- Finished tracks: turn the best DNA-derived sketches into real Akhentek pieces.
